Tenure-track Faculty Position in Earth Sciences (IES, AS)中央研究院地球科學研究所誠徵研究員

Academia Sinica (AS) is the premier, state-funded research organization in Taiwan. The Institute of Earth Sciences (IES), one of the 32 institutes of Academia Sinica, has strong and active research programs in solid Earth geophysics and geochemistry with state-of-the-art analytical and computational facilities. The institute operates several field observation networks in Taiwan and other parts of Asia. Current research at IES includes observational and computational seismology, active tectonics and geohazards, isotope geochemistry and cosmochemistry, orogenic processes and crustal evolution, and geodynamics and physical properties of deep Earth. We invite outstanding candidates who will strengthen and complement the above research fields to apply for the tenure-track faculty position at the assistant research fellow (equivalent to assistant professor) level or above. Applicants who use innovative quantitative methods based on big-data sciences (e.g. artificial intelligence) are particularly welcome. The Department of Earth Sciences at National Central University in Taiwan is seeking 1-2 full-time assistant professors or higher (including) in the following fields:

Qualifications: Candidates should hold a Ph.D. degree in the fields of geophysics, seismology, geology, sustainability, or related areas, from domestic or international institutions. Those with one year or more of postdoctoral research experience and the ability to teach courses related to geophysical exploration are preferred.

The Department of Geosciences at the National Taiwan University (NTU) is seeking active and dedicated individuals to fill several faculty positions with an expected start date of August 1^st, 2024. Candidates with a relevant Ph.D. degree, regardless of specialization, are invited to apply, but more favorable consideration will be given to those with expertise in the following areas: (1)  Geo-materials/geo-resources (Mineralogy/Petrology/Ore deposits), (2) Geochemistry/Isotope Geochemistry (with preference for familiarity with accelerator mass spectrometry techniques and applications), (3) Structural Geology, (4) Hydrogeology, and (5) Sedimentology/Stratigraphy.

極端條件實驗室徵才訊息                              

極端條件實驗室(中央研究院地球所)主要研究興趣為了解地球與行星內部礦物於極端條件下(極高壓力-up to 150 GPa、極高/低溫度-few to thousands of Kelvin、極高磁場-few Tesla以及極短時間-picosecond to nanosecond)之物理性質。我們利用超快光學結合高壓鑽石砧以及高低溫系統等技術以模擬地球與行星內部的極端環境, 並研究地球,類地行星及冰衛星內部從上部地幔至地核之主要組成材料於相關高溫高壓條件下的熱與電傳導、聲速、分子振動光譜及電子自旋等特性。此研究將大幅提高目前世界上所能量測相關物理量的壓力、溫度及時間範圍，提供全新的實驗數據。預期將會對這些星體內部熱演化、磁場演化及地體動力學等議題帶來重要的進展。此外，我們也從礦物物理的角度幫助解釋動力學模擬與地震波觀測上的相關問題。

One to three faculty position at the level of assistant professorship or higher is opened for applicants with excellent or great potential to develop their academic accomplishments in the fields of structural geology, mineralogy, petrology, experimental petrology, geology, sedimentology, geochemistry, geophysics and other earth sciences related specialties.

極端條件實驗室(中央研究院地球所)主要研究興趣為了解地球內部礦物於極端條件下(極高壓力-up to 150 GPa、極高/低溫度-few to thousands of Kelvin、極高磁場-few Tesla以及極短時間-picosecond to nanosecond)之物理性質。我們計畫利用超快光學結合高壓鑽石砧以及高低溫系統等技術以模擬地球與行星內部的極端環境, 並研究地球,類地行星及冰衛星內部從上部地幔至地核之主要組成材料於相關高溫高壓條件下的熱傳導、聲速、分子振動光譜及電子自旋等特性。此研究將大幅提高目前世界上所能量測相關物理量的壓力、溫度及時間範圍，並且提供全新的實驗數據。預期將會對這些星體內部熱演化及地球動力學等議題帶來重要的進展，也可從礦物物理的角度幫助解釋地震波觀測上的相關問題。

The research interests of the Extreme Conditions Laboratory (ECL) at the Institute of Earth Sciences, Academia Sinica, focus on exploring physical properties of minerals under extreme conditions, e.g., extremely high pressure (up to 150 GPa), high/low temperature (tens to thousands of Kelvin), high magnetic field (few Tesla) and short time scale (picoseconds to nanoseconds). Our current researches include using ultrafast optics combined with extreme pressure and temperature techniques to simulate the environments in the Earth and planetary interior, and to study thermal conductivity, sound velocity, Raman spectroscopy and magnetism of important minerals (Mg,Fe)SiO3 bridgmanite, (Mg,Fe)O ferropericlase, and (Mg,Fe)2SiO4 olivine, etc. Our ultimate goals are to understand various geodynamic phenomena and their dynamic processes in the Earth and planetary interior, and to help explain enigmatic seismic wave observations.

Position title: Postdoc researchers, full-time research assistants with MS degree, PhD/master students, and undergraduates. Candidates who are familiar with laser/optics, high pressure technique, and numerical simulations/programming are highly preferred.

Tenure-track or project-oriented faculty in assistant/associate/full professor level in the CSRSR, NCU, TAIWAN for the areas of satellite remote sensing, photogrammetry, or geographic information system

Requirement:

(1)    Candidates must hold a Ph.D. (or equivalent) degree in remote sensing, geoinformatics or closely related fields. Highly preferred fields of expertise are photogrammetry, computer vision, mobile mapping and positioning, microwave remote sensing, synthetic aperture radar, image and signal processing, environmental remote sensing (e.g., space, atmospheric, oceanic or geological sciences), disaster prevention and mitigation, sustainable development.
