[Call for Papers] Journal of Asian Earth Sciences Special Issue – “Taiwan Orogeny: Recent Advances on Studies from Sources to Products, and Processes (In honor of Prof. Cheng-Hong Chen for his relevant contributions)”

Dear colleagues,
As introduced in the TT2 Taiwan Tectonics 2 special session titled " Taiwan Orogeny: Recent Advances on Studies from Sources to Products, and Processes (in honor of Prof. Cheng-Hong Chen for his scientific contributions and 80th birthday)" at the Annual Conference of the Chinese Taipei Geophysical Society and the Geological Society of Taiwan in June 2026, the papers from this session will be compiled into a Special Issue published in the international academic journal “Journal of Asian Earth Sciences (JAES)”. Recently, the publication plan for this Special Issue has been approved by JAES and announced on the journal's official website:
https://www.sciencedirect.com/special-issue/336595/taiwan-orogeny-recent-advances-on-studies-from-sources-to-products-and-processes-in-honor-of-prof-cheng-hong-chen-for-his-relevant-contributions
Therefore, we are extremely honored to invite you and your research team to submit papers to this JAES Special Issue, titled:
Taiwan Orogeny: Recent Advances on Studies from Sources to Products, and Processes (In honor of Prof. Cheng-Hong Chen for his relevant contributions)
This Special Issue aims to bring together the latest research findings on the Taiwan orogenic system in recent years, covering topics from tectonic and magmatic sources, crustal deformation and structural evolution, to metamorphism and magmatism. We welcome submissions that explore arc–continent collision processes, subduction zones and mantle dynamics, structural deformation and fault activity, magmatic and metamorphic processes, basin evolution and sedimentary systems, as well as integrated geophysics and geochemistry methods applied to the study of the Taiwan orogeny. The core themes include, but are not limited to:
  • Mantle sources and magmatic processes: arc magmatic evolution, isotope geochemistry, and mantle dynamics.
  • Crustal evolution and mtamorphism: metamorphic petrology, P–T–t paths, and fluid–rock interactions.
  • Structural geology and orogenic processes: deformation mechanisms of arc–continent collision, fault systems, uplift, and structural mountain building.
  • Sedimentary systems and surface processes: sediment provenance and basin evolution, surface erosion, and sediment flux in active orogenic belts.
  • Geophysics and deep structures: lithospheric seismic imaging, crust–mantle interactions, and geodynamic modeling.
  • Natural hazards and environmental geosciences: active faults and earthquake processes, geological hazards, and mitigation applications.
This Special Issue is also dedicated to Prof. Cheng-Hong Chen, in profound gratitude for laying the foundation of geological research in Taiwan and East Asia over the past several decades, which includes pioneering modern microanalytical geochemistry in Taiwan, refining monazite U–Th–Pb geochronology, and promoting interdisciplinary collaboration on active tectonics and natural hazards.
Important Submission Information:
  • Submission deadline: February 28, 2027
  • Manuscript Types: original research articles and review papers
  • Submission system: please submit through Elsevier Editorial Manager and select the title of this Special Issue
  • Detailed guidelines: please refer to the official JAES Author Guidelines.
